We came into being because of a request from Will Kreamer, the current athletic director for THMS.  He outlined some of the issues surrounding the athletic programs at the school, a major one being finances.  Tucson High Magnet School has 17 sports programs with most sports having 3 different divisions; Freshman, J.V. and Varsity teams making a total of approximately 50 teams.  His ANNUAL operating budget for the ENTIRE athletic department is ONLY $10,000! A football helmet costs around $180.  It is usual to need to purchase a minimum of 10 helmets a year.  So, for one sport he just spent 18% of his annual budget for all THMS athletic programs for one piece of equipment.  One can see that eventually this problem becomes a safety issue, since purchases of equipment have to be delayed or skipped altogether.  This also creates a morale problem for the kids not having the proper equipment.  Additionally, in the past there were no costs the kids themselves had to pay in order to play sports but today they are required to do so and many kids do not have the money and are unable to play.  So, we are soliciting donations for THMS football. 

 

A group of former THS football players have formed an association and have negotiated with the T-Club to be a separate subcommittee of the T-Club.  The T-Club is a 501(c)(3) corporation which tries to help all aspects of THMS athletics.  With our association, we will be able to use their tax I.D. Number to solicit  FULLY TAX DEDUCTIBLE DONATIONS and, with input from THMS coaches and Athletic Director, will be able to direct those monies to the football programs for on field needs.  We are giving the T-Club a small stipend for administrative costs, so you can be assured that essentially all your donation will be directed to the football programs.  We are making it easy to donate so that all you have to do is go to our linked Paypal site and donate.  We will send you a receipt for your donation identifying it as a tax deductible donation with the appropriate tax ID. We also would like you to sign up and become a member of the Association as it is free to do so.  Your donation is your dues.  As we add contact information we plan to notify everyone of social events we envision taking place this fall around home football games, and depending on response, an annual event to reconnect.  Please go to our sign up page and be part of the organization.  Also notify your former teammates and friends about the site. We want as many people as we can to participate. Spouses, widows, children and all other non-football players are welcome. Currently we have an organizing Board of Directors, who have pledged to get this association off the ground and serve for 2 years.  We fully expect that as we mature you will want to serve on the board and hopefully continue our mission.
